Our History

Where do we start?

The Beginnings

Waverley Community Church is a local church that started as a small Missional Life Community established by Sheffield Community Church in the spring of 2023. The people in the MLC were predominately from the sprawling new estate of Waverley. It is from there that a faith community started meeting mid-weekly in a local home for prayer, fellowship and learning together from the Scriptures.

In the Autumn of 2023, after a season of prayer and fasting, Sheffield Community Church planted Waverley Community Church with a small team of men and women, parents with little children. The Ministry Team was led by Achile and Yvette Mayala who reside within Waverley and are part of the SCC Senior Leadership Team. More is yet to follow as this is a brand new church plant!

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello!

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When?

We meet at the Waverley Junior Academy (details here) for our Sunday Service starting at 10:30am. For your first visit, we recommend arriving 10-15 minutes early to ensure you get a parking space and find somewhere to sit before the service begins. When you arrive, you should be greeted by someone on our Welcome Team.

We serve tea, coffee and other refreshments after the service. It is a great way to meet people, or simply take time to find your bearings. All refreshments are free.

Our Service

The Main Service begins at 10:30am with a warm welcome from one of our team members. Then follows a time of praise and worship, led by our Worship Team. After this we then share announcements, usually about what’s going on in the life of the church followed by our time of collection of tithes and offerings. It is a common occurrence for one to pray out loud or read a small passage from the Bible.  After this one of our leaders will then give a sermon that is Bible based and that we can apply to our everyday life. When the sermon is finished there is an opportunity to receive prayer at the end of the service.
